GRUMMAN X 29 EPUB
In the XA on display became the world's first forward-swept aircraft to fly supersonically. The XA program explored cutting-edge aircraft design. The Grumman X aircraft was a technology demonstrator appearing in the latter years of the Cold War . The design was of a most unique shape. The Grumman X was an American experimental aircraft that tested a forward-swept wing, canard control surfaces, and other novel aircraft technologies.Design and development · Operational history · Specifications (X).

The Xs made flights, before they were put in storage. The aircraft were adapted from existing Northrop F-5A Freedom Fighter airframes after the airframe had been chosen over a competing proposal involving a General Dynamics Grumman x 29 Fighting Falcon ; the modified design was known internally as the G The test program of the two planes continued for over a decade, and on December 13, one of them became the first grumman x 29 swept wing aircraft to fly supersonically in level flight the earlier Junkers Ju had been the first jet aircraft with forward-swept wings.
The XA program explored cutting-edge aircraft design features, including forward-swept wings, advanced grumman x 29, a forward-mounted elevator or canard and a computerized flight control system. The Grumman X was an internally complex design centered around three redundant Fly-By-Wire FBW computers backed by three redundant analog computers.
Fly-by-wire technology grumman x 29 necessary as the unconventional layout of the airframe proved to be highly unstable inflight without assistance.
The redundancy of the systems assured that there would be no catastrophic failure of the subsystems while inflight and the analog arrangement directly backed up the digital suite to provide a further fail safe.
The X was a true testbed in every sense of the word, its fly-by-wire technology now commonplace to both military- and civilian-minded aircraft alike. These carried serial numbers and Each of the three would "vote" grumman x 29 their measurements, so that if any one was malfunctioning it could be detected.

It was estimated that a grumman x 29 failure of the system was as unlikely as a mechanical failure in an airplane with a conventional arrangement. This perception has held up in the years following the end of flight tests.
Air Force tests did not support this expectation. Grumman x 29 was programmed into the flight control system to preserve the ability to stop the pitching rotation and keep the aircraft from departing out of control.
